How to keep nibblers out of your garden using Irish Spring soap

Now this is one way to get the job done. Em, the blogger behind Dust and Doghair, is a strong believer in Irish Spring: she believes that the strong-smelling soap is a miracle worker for deterring deer. She and her husband were frustrated with watching their hosta garden bloom in the evening and waking up with bare stems in the morning. One day, Em buckled down and decided to try Irish Spring, a hack recommended by such bloggers as DIY Maven on Curbly and Gardener Scott, as well as famous home and garden expert Martha Stewart.
Em was impressed with the results. "Once we added the soap, the leaves lasted the summer," she wrote on Dust and Doghair. Em recognizes the hack may not work for everyone and every garden, but she urges her followers who struggle with this pest problem to give it a try!

Irish Spring can be found at most local supermarkets or dollar stores. Simply shred the soap using a cheese slicer or food processor. Sprinkle the shredded soap around and inside the plants. Repeat the process every 2-3 weeks and watch as your plants grow and the deer stay far away.

Once you've warded away the deer, you may find you still have some persistent pests gnawing at your decorative plants, delicious fruits and nutritious vegetables.

Another way to attack this problem may be through a homemade insect spray such as this one made from mint leaves, garlic cloves, cayenne pepper and dish washing liquid — a recipe courtesy of Jami of An Oregon Cottage, as shared on Hometalk.
And make sure to SHARE this hack if you found it as useful as we did!
