How to crochet the leaping stripes and blocks pattern (video tutorial & diagram)

The leaping stripes and block pattern creates a fun, colorful design that appear to jump back and forth across the surface of your project. This sweet pattern looks great on baby blankets or grown up quilts. Simply changing colors can upgrade the look of this design.
If you're a little nervous to give this one a whirl, Moogly Blog notes that the stitches used in this pattern are pretty basic and once you get the hang of the first few rows, you'll be able to work your way through the rest of the pattern easily.

The results are always a showstopper.
You'll need at least two colors for this pattern. You can always do more than two colors but you should at least do have two. Moogly Blog also gives specific measurements (including how many chains you need to make) to get the right size blanket for this pattern.
Pick a color to start your chain row. Chain as many as you need for your project ( for example, a small baby blanket will be 110 chains across and 96 rows wide). Do a double crochet into the fourth chain from your hook and double crochet in the chain after. Chain two. Skip two stitches and add a double crochet in the next two. Repeat to the end of the row and turn. For more detailed instructions you can see the Moogly Blog post or watch her video below.
From this point, you'll have a series of rows that include slip crochets and single crochets before you move on to your second color. Watch the video below to see how the rest of this pattern works.
After rows one and two (which serves as your base), you'll repeat rows three and four (with color switches), until you get to the last row. You'll add a finishing row to this, as well as a border to tie it all together. The repetition of the pattern makes it a good project to get plenty of practice on.
