Materials
Any weight yarn. In the video above I use worsted weight.
Crochet hook in the appropriate size for the yarn used. I used a 5 mm hook.
Pro tip: After the first row, which is worked into the foundation chain, work the last stitch of every row into the top of the turning chain below. In the video above I show you a few ways to make this easier.
Pro tip: When switching colors, back up to the last loop you pulled through, switch colors, pull the loop through with the new color. Cut the old color and leave ends to weave in at end. Watch the video above for step-by-step instructions.

Ch a multiple of 8 sts, plus 5 more sts. In the video above, I do 3 repeats so I ch 29 sts.
Row 1: In this row you’ll crochet little ch-1 windows with 7 dc sts in between. Dc in 4th st fr hook, 3 dc, *ch 1, sk 1, 7 dc* rep * to * to last 5 sts, ch 1, sk 1, 5 dc, ch 2, turn.
Row 2: In this row, you’ll crochet sets of 3 windows centered over the windows in the row below. Starting in 4th st fr hook, *2 dc, (ch 1, sk 1, dc) 3 times* rep * to * to end, 2 dc (see pro tip!), ch 2, turn.
Row 3: In this row, you’ll crochet windows all the way across. Ch 1 more, dc in 6th st fr hook, *ch 1, sk 1, dc* rep from * to * to end. Switch colors (see pro tip!), ch 2 turn.
Row 4: In this row, you’ll crochet puff spike sts into the upside-down pyramids of windows you made in the previous 3 rows ** (See detailed instructions above). Each puff spike is separated by clusters of dc sts. 2 dc in first window in the row below, *ch 2, puff spike, ch 2, 3 dc in last window worked* rep from * to * to end, ch 2, turn.
Repeat rows 1-4 to desired height.
