How to do a classic french braid (video)

The classic French braid long gave a touch of class and elegance to those days when hair simply seems unmanageable or hard to control. Whether you're battling the wind or excess humidity, adding a bit of controlled style saves frustration and brings you among the style elite.
"Braids are a chic lazy-girl hairstyle!" Matrix SoColor celebrity stylist George Papanikolas said in a January 2016 issue of Us Weekly, citing the Kardashian sisters as examples of the style. "[This type of hairdo] works best on damp, towel-dried hair."

How to do a classic french braid
Directions
1. Brush all hair away from the face, smoothing as you go.
2. Separate a section of hair on the crown and divide into three sections. Cross the left section over the center, and then the right section over the center.
3. Add another section of hair from the side to both the left and right braid sections and repeat the previous left-over-center, right-over-center pattern.
4. Continue down the length of the braid, repeating step three.
5. When you reach the nape of the neck, continue with a regular three-strand braid and secure with an elastic band. Don't forget to tame any stray hairs with hairspray.
Pro tip: As this is a basic braid and the starting point for many styles, the guide suggests that the key to mastery is practice, practice, practice!
