Materials
You will need worsted weight yarn and an I/9/5.5 mm crochet hook. A pair of scissors and a tapestry needle are also useful.

Double Crochet Cluster
To work a dc cluster (double crochet cluster), yo, insert hook into 1st st, yarn over, draw up loop, 3 loops on hook, yo, draw through 2 loops on hook, yo, insert hook into next st, yo and draw up a loop, 4 loops on hook. Yo, draw through 2 loops, 3 loops on hook, yo, draw through all 3 loops on hook.
Written instructions
Row 1: ch 4. Put 2dc into first st of ch.
Row 2: ch 3, turn work and put 2dc into 1st dc. Dc into next dc. 3dc into last dc.
Row 3: ch 3, turn work, put 2dc into 1st dc. Dc into next 2dc. Ch1, sk 1dc. Dc into next 2dc. 3dc into last dc.
Row 4: ch 2, turn work, sk 1st dc, work dc cluster into next 2dcs, then work dc cluster into next 2dcs. Ch2, join with sl st into last dc. Sl st in ch1 sp, sl st in next dc. Ch2 and work 2 dc clusters over next 4dc, ch2 and join with sl st to last dc.
Row 5: ch7, then work 2 dc into 4th ch from hook.
Repeat rows 2, 3 and 4 from first heart until you have as many hearts as desired.
Join each new row of hearts at the dc on the side of the work on the third row. Insert your hook and ch7, 2 dc into 4th ch from hook, then repeat rows 2, 3 and 4. Continue to add heart rows until your shawl is your desired length.

The Love Notes scarf has been made in a lovely romantic red worsted weight yarn, but you can choose any yarn you like - maybe your loved one's favorite shade! A worsted yarn will probably take an I/9/5.5 mm hook but check the manufacturer's band for suggestions. You'll also need scissors and a tapestry needle.

Start with a foundation chain of 18 sts.
Row 1: dc into 4th ch from hook. Dc in next ch. In the next ch, work *(1 dc, ch 3, 1 dc). Skip next ch, work a dc in next 2 ch. Repeat from * across, then 1 dc in last ch.
Row 2: ch 5, turn. Work *(3 dc, ch 3, 1 dc) in the ch 3 sp from the previous row. Repeat from * across. 3 dc in the top of turning chain.
Repeat row 2 until scarf is 60 inches long or desired length.
