Watch how to crochet the little fan stitch (video and written instructions)

The little fan stitch is a great way to make a big impression across all your blankets, scarves and throws. It's an lacy, airy stitch that would also look really pretty crocheted up as a light summer top or shawl.
It's really easy to master, with only two rows making up the repeat and, best of all, it's made up of the simplest stitches - just chains, single crochet and double crochet. This makes it suitable for beginners, but the stitch is interesting enough to appeal even to seasoned crocheters as well.

Materials
You can use any yarn for this stitch, but always be aware that very chunky yarns will mean you lose a lot of definition. Think of selecting a nice DK weight if you are making a blanket or throw, or maybe go for a light fingering yarn if you want to create a summery shawl or shrug. Check your manufacturer's band for hook size suggestions. You will also need a pair of scissors and a tapestry needle for weaving in ends.
