Watch how to crochet the crosshatch stitch (video and written instructions)

The crosshatch stitch is a clever pattern that gives the impression you are constantly switching yarn colors, though in fact it is built up in solid rows. Add a third color to the mix for a seriously impressive effect.
The crosshatch is ideal for blankets and throws, but would also make a fun scarf or even a sweater. You'll only need to know the double and single crochet stitches, so it's suitable for a novice crocheter.

Materials
You can use any yarn for the crosshatch stitch, and it would look effective in a chunky weight and delicate in a fingering yarn. This is a great stash-busting stitch as you can use up all your oddments of yarn. Be sure to use yarns of the same weight, though, to get the best effect. Check your manufacturer's band for hook size suggestions. You'll also need a pair of scissors and a tapestry needle for weaving in ends.
