Stop buying lettuce. Use these smart methods to grow an endless supply

Most households go through a lot of lettuce, and at the end of the month it can start to add up. So, instead of splurging on fancy, pre-packaged romaine lettuce at the store, why not grow it yourself?
The best part is there's no need to start from the seed. In fact, you can start from the crunchy, watery stubby you were about to throw away anyways. Here are two ways to grow lettuce so you never have to buy it again.

1. Grow from water

Sprouting a new head of lettuce has never been easier. Plus, it's fun to put it in the windowsill and watch your food grow. Here's what you have to do:
- Place the romaine lettuce heart in the bottom of a bowl with about 1/2 inch of water.
- Be sure to change the water often, about every day to keep it clean.
- Place the bowl in a nice sunny spot
- When the lettuce has sprouted big enough leaves, harvest the plant and enjoy!
2. Grow in water then transplant to soil
This option is almost exactly the same as the one above, but instead, when the lettuce begins sprouting and growing roots you transplant it into nutrient rich soil. By doing so, you can ensure your lettuce will grow a lot bigger, and leafier.
- Place the romaine lettuce heart in the bottom of a bowl with about 1/2 inch of water.
- Be sure to change the water often, about every day to keep it clean.
- Place the bowl in a nice sunny spot.
- Once the leaves begin sprouting and roots start to down, plant it in the garden or a nice pot in the house.
