10 surprising uses of Kool-Aid

Oh yeah! You can do so much more with Kool-Aid than you ever imagined. Sure, back in the day this was just a drink you would mix up in a big pitcher. But now, the internet has gotten ahold of it, and they've come up with some great ideas to repurpose this childhood favorite.
Check out our list below to learn how Kool-Aid can help you clean around the house, do fun crafts and even dye your hair.

1. Clean your washing machine
No, you don't make a giant batch of Kool-Aid when you pour it in. The Krazy Coupon Lady explains that the citric acid inside the Kool-Aid crystals helps remove gunk and other buildups -- even rust -- from the inside of your washing machine. Just use the lemon or orange flavor, turn it on a regular wash cycle and you're ready to go.
2. Clean your dishwasher
Just like how your washing machine acquires buildup, your dishwasher does too. The Krazy Coupon Lady says to use the same method as the washing machine to clean out any gunk buildup from your dishwasher.
3. Clean your concrete
If you have rust stains on your concrete patio or sidewalks, Kool-Aid will help you take it right off. All you need to do is mix a few drops of water with the solution to create a paste and then use a brush to scrub the stains away.
4. Clean pots and pans
Use a packet of lemon or orange Kool-Aid to scrub away stubborn stains on your dirty pots and pans. The salts and citrus acids are going to help dissolve and lift any hard stains.
5. Clean silverware and tarnished jewelryGrab a packet of Kool-Aid and mix it into two quarts of water in a tub or bucket. Mix it all together and let your jewelry and silverware soak for about ten minutes. They should come out nice and clean like new!
6. Hair dye
This is a cheap and easy way to dye your kid's hair and it's totally temporary, too. The Krazy Coupon Lady says to mix one packet -- like blue or red for something really fun -- with a teaspoon of cornstarch and water. Leave it in the hair for about five minutes then rinse. It'll look great but only last a few washes.
7. Fix chlorine hair
While the blue or red Kool-Aid packets turn hair fun colors, the lemon flavor Kool-Air removes those not-so-fun green hues from chlorine swimming pools. The Krazy Coupon Lady says to mix it in with your shampoo, wash as normal, let it sit for a few minutes then rinse. Your hair will look great and feel great too.
8. Lip gloss
The Frugal Minded Mom says you can create your own great smelling lipgloss with the help of some petroleum jelly and Kool-Aid. Mix the two together, pop it in the microwave to melt it down then pour it into a container to cool.
9. Use it as dye
Not only can you dye hair but you can dye yarn, wooden frames or even homemade play dough. It's totally safe to use and easy too. Time to get creative!
