1. Eek out that last drop of foundation
Ever wonder if there’s more product in the bottom of an opaque tube? Since you can’t really tell what’s in there, the best way to find out is to cut the bottom off and see for yourself…just be sure to have a hygienic container to transfer the remaining product into. You’ll probably have more than enough to last you a few days.
2. Depot lipstick
It’s a sad moment when you twist open your favorite lippie only to find that there’s nothing left. We all know there’s more in the tube, so use a clean, thin utensil (chopsticks work great) to dig out the remaining lipstick. There’s more there than you think, so be sure to grab a sanitary container to store the rest for another day. Tip: Clean contact lens cases work great, and there’s even room for two separate shades.
3. Use mascara as eyeliner
When your favorite gel eyeliner runs out, don’t panic. Your go-to mascara can double as eyeliner. Simply rub your eyeliner brush against the mascara wand, and then line your lids. Job done. Crisis averted.
4. Rejuvenate dying mascara
Fierce League
You know how you love that first fresh coat of mascara from a new tube? Well, if your mascara is nearing its expiration date and drying out, you can revive it with a dash of sterile saline solution. Just add a couple of drops to the tube and mix together with the mascara wand. The saline thins the product and makes it easy to apply.
5. Make lipstick or blush interchangeable
For years, women have been using lipstick to create that rosy flush on their cheeks. If you haven’t tried it yet, now’s the time. Blush can also pull double-duty as a lip stain. Just mix some in a clean container with a little petroleum jelly, and your lips will look lush in no time. Bonus: Since lipstick and blush should usually match, either of these tips will ensure your final look is balance and flattering.
6. Fix your shattered shadows or blush
It happens to all of us. One minute everything is fine, and the next minute your coveted product hits the floor, shattering more than just your makeup. While you may be tempted to thrown everything out, you can restore your powder product to its original state by crushing up the pieces in a mortar and pestle, adding some rubbing alcohol to make the mixture pliable, and pressing it back into the compact to dry. The appearance might not be the same, but once the alcohol dissipates, you’ll be able to use the product again with ease.
