6 science experiments that are done with matches

When you are a small child you parents may have told you to never play with matches. What they didn’t tell you was matches are great for science experiments which makes sense because matches can burn your house down. For these 6 experiments, you will be using matches. Make sure you have taken all of the safety precautions, as you want to learn and be safe while doing them.
Watch the videos first, then get your parents’ permission, and then you can begin experimenting with one of the most dangerous supplies to experiment with.

1. Spinning Match (h/t Sick Science)
This is a cool match experiment that does not require any flame. With a balloon, a match, a penny and a cup you will perform what looks like a pure magic trick however it will not be magic. It will be science.
2. 20,0000 matches vs egg experiment (h/t X-perio)
This experiment is one that requires a high level of safety as 20,000 matches can make a lot of fire. This is a cool experiment because what you think will happen to the eggs may or may not happen. Hypothesize what you think will happen to the eggs, watch the video and see if you were right.
3. Lift ice cube experiment (h/t Jet Man)
Lifting an ice cube with a match almost sounds unbelievable, but this experiment is proof that it does work. You will see a physical change happen right before your eyes. This experiment also does not require any fire which will probably make your parents very happy.
4. Light match inside glass experiment (h/t King of Perfection)
Is it possible for fire to remain lit underwater? This experiment is going to answer this question. Watch what happens when you have two matches and two jars and one full of water.
5. Match rocket experiment ( h/t CrazyRussianHacker)
Just like the experimenter in this video, it is important to have a fire extinguisher available just to make sure you have taken all safety precautions. When you watch the video you will see that the experiment happens quite fast, but with a match and a couple other supplies, this experimenter shoots a match across a table like a rocket. It is a very neat trick.
6. Light match with fingernail experiment (h/t BrainfooTV)
This experiment is another one that requires a full amount of safety because the intention is to create fire. This experiment is reminiscent of the old Wild West when cowboys used to light matches with their fingers or the bottom of their boots. Here you will learn about friction and even how to light a match with the flick of a finger. Make sure you watch the video before trying this experiment.
