Watch this floating magic (+5 other science experiments with static electricity)

You may be familiar with static electricity, but a little unsure of exactly what it is. Static electricity is what happens when materials are either rubbed together or pulled apart. When those materials are rubbed together or pulled apart, electrons that carry a negative charge, and atoms that carry a positive charge cause the reaction you see when doing a static electricity experiment. By itself, static electricity cannot harm you, but with a conductor can cause shocks and sparks. Make sure you are taking the best precaution when doing static electricity experiment. s
To get a better understanding of how static electricity works, watch these experiments about static electricity.

1. Static electricity Fun (h/t Science Bob)
Static electricity moves throughout the body with ease as the atoms in your body gain and loses electrons. This is not a process you feel unless you have a conductor like socks, carpet, and something metal like a doorknob. This video demonstrates how static electricity moves through your body and can even cause a head full of hair to stand straight up. There is also a great explanation of how static electricity works.
2. How to make things fly experiment (h/t SpanglerScienceTV)
In this video, you get a lot of information about static electricity. Around 1:57 of the video he shows you how to make things fly and levitate using static electricity. There are a couple of other cool experiments that he shows you if you want to watch the whole video. He teaches you a lot about static electricity in a short time.
3. Salt, pepper, and static electricity (h/t tslacld)
For this experiment, almost everything you need is in the title. You will also be using a balloon to actually create the static electricity. You may be curious about how all of those materials teach you about static electricity. Watch the video and see some of the cool things static electricity can do.
4. Cool static electricity experiment (h/t Taras Kul)
The name is not an exaggeration. Somehow by using static electricity, this experimenter is able to do some pretty neat things with a nickel and a match. If you do it just right, it could be a great science trick to show the people you know. Watch the video and then give it a try, and see more cool things static electricity can do.
5. 9 Awesome science tricks using static electricity (h/t brusspup)
Check out this cool compilation video with 9 awesome static electricity experiments. They don’t go too deep into detail, but you will see a bunch of different ways static electricity works through various experiments. Enjoy this cool video!
