How to make a DIY hexagon shelf out of popsicle sticks

Jess, a freelance advertising copywriter and mother of two, is the mastermind behind the Make and Do Crew. Jess began crafting as a small child and now dedicates much of her time to empowering others to explore their "inner maker elf." Jess believes all people have the ability to make and do. Her easy to follow tutorials make it possible for anyone to discover the joy of crafting and DIY.
A popsicle stick hexagon shelf is one of the most simple, yet chicest projects from the Make and Do Crew. As Jess says, "My favorite craft projects are those that take something mundane, utilitarian or used up and transform it into something beautiful. Well, my friends, it doesn't get much more ordinary than popsicle sticks."

To make the popsicle stick hexagon shelf, all you need is popsicle sticks, tacky glue, min-wax stain in English Chestnut, and a paintbrush. You may also wish to use a picture hanger. To make the shelf, start by drawing a hexagon template on a sheet of paper. Lay three popsicle sticks along the edges of the hexagon and drop glue on each of the ends.
Layer the popsicle sticks over one another, and then repeat, layering three at a time until you've reach your desired depth. Jess recommends an approximate 16 popsicle sticks deep.
When the glue is dry, stain the shelf, making sure to get the stain in between each of the popsicle sticks. You can find complete instructions, including how to mount the shelf, on the Make and Do Crew website
Jess' popsicle stick hexagon shelf is such a great DIY project because it is inexpensive and can completely transform a room.
