Homemaker transforms grandfather's outdated bathroom into bright, dreamy space

Bathroom makeovers are one of the most common home improvement projects. It makes sense -- they are essential, functional spaces, and often recoup more than their cost when it comes time to sell the home.
These three examples demonstrate that, regardless of style or budget, a little DIY savvy goes a long way toward reducing the actual cost of the renovation.
1. Chic cottage-style bathroom makeover
Myra Hope's bathroom "was operational, but dated," she writes on My Blessed Life. "It suited my dear Granddaddy so well!" Hope, her husband, and a few friends performed a complete renovation -- including plumbing, electrical, and sheetrock work -- to produce the sparkling result.
2. Bathroom makeover on a budget
On the other hand, it only took a change of colors and the addition of DIY plantation shutters and a DIY towel "ladder" to make the dramatic changes in this small bathroom, used by kids and guests.
Tamara of Provident Home Design purchased all materials for this makeover, then added a lot of creativity and a little skill to create a beautiful new bathroom for her family -- for less than $250.
3. Bathroom redesign for under $100
For those on a tighter budget, look no further than Vintage Romance Style. Teryn Yancey firmly believes that "your home doesn't have to be expensive to make you happy," and puts that belief to work with every blog post.
Yancey completely redid this bathroom for $93 by utilizing paint she already had, a few thrift store and garage sale finds and a couple of inexpensive accessories. The result is a bathroom she appreciates much more than the previous "builder grade beige" that she admits to having painted herself.
The most important thing about renovations, especially if you plan to live in the home for more than a few years, is that you love the space you create. You get to live in that wonderful space for years to come, and that is an incredible return on investment!

Decorating your home with accents of natural stone and metal doesn't have to cost a fortune.
