The hairpin lace, which according to moogly was made popular during the Victorian era, is one of those looks. To create this stitch, you need to know how to chain, do the single crochet and have a hairpin loom. You can purchase a hairpin loom, like this one here. However, if you simply want to experiment with the stitch before investing money into it, Instructables shows how you can easily make your own loom with only a set of knitting needles and a pair of flip-flops. To create a loom that's a little more refined, Crochet Twin Cities has posted easy-to-follow instructions. Once you have your loom, you are ready to embark on the journey of creating truly remarkable pieces of lace. Check out our great step-by-step video above to walk you through how to make hairpin lace.
What can you make using the hairpin lace?
Mastering the hairpin lace opens the door to creating many different products. Moogly shares that numerous combinations of this lace exist; and by changing the combination or the edging, you can create a whole new look. Use a delicate yarn to make a beautiful neck scarf that can double for a necklace.
Change out the delicate yarn for some chunky yarn and increase the size of the stitch and your end product will be a coat.
Another possibility is this amazing lace. It's perfect to use as an accent scarf or belt.
The type of yarn and edging totally give every scarf a different look. The scarf below is not as intricate as the one above, but it's still absolutely gorgeous.
Having a lacy looking shawl comes in handy, and the hairpin lace is a great stitch for making one. Adding tassels to the edge gives the shawl an added flair.
The hairpin lace also makes a beautiful overlay sweater, the perfect accent to any outfit.
You can even use this stitch for baby blankets and afghans.
Stepping up your game in crochet allows you to access elegant looks and to produce pieces that would cost a lot of money to buy. You can have the look you want at the price you can afford.
