Videos about braiding hair are surprisingly popular, but there is one that's currently taking the internet by storm and making headlines.
In the video, freelance hair artist Iris Araújo creates a braid down the front of her face — yes, the front. It's a waterfall style braid that starts just below her chin and continues to the end of her hair. When she is finished braiding, it looks like Araújo is wearing a hijab made of hair.
But keep watching.
In the final 15 seconds of the video, Araújo grabs the braid and flips it over to fall down her back, and the result is stunning. Various posts and reposts of the original video have received millions of views.
Araújo regularly posts photos of her braid art to social media, usually with upbeat messages like "Your vibe attracts your tribe" and "You are naturally beautiful when you are yourself." Her Braids in Action Facebook and Instagram accounts have been active for only one year, but she's acquired more than 100,000 followers between the two platforms.
Braided hairstyles are art, trend and fashion practicality. Like most fashion trends, the popularity of braiding waxes and wanes regularly, but the internet has given a whole new way of sharing braiding styles and tutorials.
