How to crochet the mini bean stitch (video & written instructions)

The mini bean stitch is a slanted, densely-textured stitch, based on a puff stitch idea, which produces a richly woven effect you'll love.
It bulks up quickly and is ideal for men's scarves and chunky throws as it's incredibly cozy and warm.

Materials
The mini bean stitch looks great in a variety of different yarns, but is very pleasing in cotton yarn or a variegated color yarn. Don't go too chunky with your yarn, though, or the stitch will start to look clumsy. Once you've chosen your yarn, pick a hook that suits the weight and don't forget to check your yarn band for the manufacturer's recommendations.

Written pattern
First, make a foundation chain in multiples of two plus one.
Row 1: sk 2 ch, insert hook into 3rd st, mb, ch 1. Sk next ch, then mb, ch 1, sk 1 st, mb. Continue this pattern all the way along the row, ending with a mb st in the last ch. Ch 2 and turn.
Row 2: Mb st - do not put this st into the top of the mb from the previous row, but slightly past it to the side. If you are having trouble working out where the right spot is, it's a good idea to refer to the video (about 2 minutes in). Then ch 1, mb into the side of the next mb, ch 1 and repeat to the end of the row. This is your basic pattern, so repeat until your project reaches the desired size.
