How to knit the linen stitch (video tutorial)

Tight and clean like fresh-pressed sheets, the linen stitch is aptly named. Although, this stitch is plusher than any Egyptian sheets you own. We love this pattern - which is sometimes also known as the fabric stitch - because it is so versatile.
You can make the linen stitch look more complex by using different colored yarns to create a duo, and tri-colored look - but even a solid colored linen stitch is going to be a stunner. Craftsy explains this stitch is firm and won't curl up on the edges - so it's great for a nice stiff scarf (think: Men's scarves), bags, jackets and even potholders and placemats.

Because the linen stitch alternates wrapped stitches over slip stitches, it's a great stitch for those sturdier accessories. New Stitch A Day explains the pattern itself also prevents vertical stretching. This means you don't have to worry about overstuffing any bags you make, or how a jacket or sweater might wear over time.
To master the linen stitch, the knitting gurus at Wool And The Gang have come up with an incredibly useful tutorial. They've gone for a nice thick yarn and used bigger needles here - but, you can also get an ever smaller and tighter stitch with thinner needles and yarn.
Check out the tutorial and let us know what you think - we'd love to hear what you want to create with the linen stitch in the comments.
