How to quilt with old jeans (video tutorial)

Have you ever had a favorite pair of jeans that you were loathe to get rid of? Even once they were beyond being able to be worn, throwing out a beloved pair of blue jeans can bring tears to your eyes. Rather than trashing your jeans, try putting them to use one more time in a blue jean quilt.
In the video below, Jenny from the Missouri Star Quilt Company walks people through some simple steps to help you prepare your jeans for quilting.

The supplies you will need in order to get started are some old jeans and a good pair of scissors. Jenny points out that you are going to want to cut off the hem of the jeans before you start. Then, you want to start cutting up the leg along the outer seam. You don't want to cut through anything that gives too much resistant to your scissors as that will be too hard to sew through. Cutting around the back pockets will give you some great squares for later use.
Once the legs are cut off, open them up and start cutting squares. You want to cut the squares as large as you can. From the narrower pieces of denim, you can cut smaller squares and sew them together to form the larger square or use them to make a separate quilt altogether.

Because denim is so hardy, blue jeans make great quilts for taking to the beach or for picnicking. If you should rip the quilt or get a hole in it, patching the quilt is as simple as applying an iron-on patch. Blue jean quilts are a win-win situation, letting you keep your favorite jeans and having a great quilt all at the same time.

When making quilts, you tend to buy fabric you like. Unfortunately, with any sewing project, all of the material is never used, and scraps are left.
