Watch how to knit horseshoe lace (video & written pattern)

Horseshoe lace is a great pattern to use if you're looking to make a lace project that is fancy enough to impress while still sturdy enough to last through everyday use. As such, horseshoe lace is an excellent pattern for blankets or sweaters.

Materials
Yarn in any weight
Knitting needles in the size indicated on your yarn label

Pro tip: Lace knitting is never finished until it’s blocked. Don’t let your hard work go to waste: Get the full effect of the pattern by blocking your work.

Abbreviations
st - stitch
k - knit
p - purl
sl - slip the stitch from the left-hand needle to the right-hand needle without knitting it
k2tog - knit 2 stitches together
psso - pass slipped stitch over
yo - yarn over

Pattern
The Horseshoe Lace pattern is knit over a multiple of 10 stitches, plus one, over an 8-row repeat. Begin Row 1 on the wrong side of your work.

Rows 1 and 3: p
Row 2: k1, * yo, k3, sl 1 st, k2tog, psso, k3, yo, k1; repeat from * to end of row
Row 4: p1, * k1, yo, k2, sl 1 st, k2tog, psso, k2, yo, k1, p1: repeat from * to end of row
Rows 5 and 7: k1, * p9, k1; repeat from * to end of row
Row 6: p1, * k2, yo, k1, sl 1 st, k2tog, psso, k1, yo, k2, p1: repeat from * to end of row
Row 8: p1, * k3, yo, sl 1 st, k2tog, psso, yo, k3, p1, repeat from * to end of row
