Though the duchess lace stitch is fairly intricate, you don't need to use a fine yarn and it looks lovely crocheted up in a standard DK weight. Check your manufacturer's band for hook size suggestions. You'll also need a pair of scissors and a tapestry needle for weaving in your ends.

You'll need to start this stitch with a foundation chain made in multiples of 3, plus 1 for turning.
Row 1: In 4th ch from hook, work (2dc, ch 3, 1 sl st), *sk next 2 ch (2dc, ch 3, 1 sl st) in next ch, rep from * for rest of row, turn.
Row 2: ch 3, *(2 dc, ch 3, 1 sl st) in next ch3 sp, rep from * for rest of row, 1dc in top of turning ch, turn.
Row 3: ch 3, *working in each ch of the ch3 of previous row, 1 dc in first ch, 1 dc in 2nd ch, ch 3, 1 sl st in 3rd ch, rep from * for rest of row, finishing with 1dc in top of turning ch, turn.
