Watch how to crochet the Marielle lace stitch (video and written instructions)

The Marielle is a lovely lace stitch, creating a mesh of interlocking shells which is ideal for shawls, scarves and light throws.
Combining chains, double and treble crochet, the Marielle stitch pulls off the neat trick of looking fiendishly complicated but being deceptively simple to create.

Materials
You can use just about any yarn for this stitch, though be wary of too chunky a weight as you may lose some of the lovely definition of the Marielle. Check the manufacturer's band for hook size suggestions. You will also need a pair of scissors and a tapestry needle for weaving in your ends.
