Watch how to crochet the open fan stitch (video and written instructions)

The open fan stitch is a beautifully lacy pattern that's ideal for creating pretty shawls and stoles for summer evenings, but would also make a lovely afghan or throw.
It's a romantic pattern which is very simple to get the hang of, so it's perfect for beginners and intermediate level crocheters who'd like to create something airy and extra special, using only chain stitches and double crochets.

You can use any yarn for this project, though beware of picking out too bulky a weight as it could make your clusters clumsy. Check the manufacturer's band for hook size suggestions. You will also need a pair of scissors and a tapestry needle for weaving in ends.
