Watch how to crochet the fan trellis stitch (video and written instructions)

The fan trellis stitch is a fun, large-scale stitch that looks gorgeous on light, airy throws and afghans. It would also make a lovely summer tablecloth, or a perfect cover-up or shawl.
It's a pattern of interlocking trellis work and arches which builds rapidly to a really attractive pattern. It doesn't involve any difficult stitches but you will need to count as you go along, so it's an intermediate level stitch.

Materials
Most yarns are appropriate for the fan trellis stitch. If your project is a summery shawl, you'll want to go for a lighter weight yarn to show off the pretty, airy texture of the stitch. If you're going to create an afghan or throw, go a little heavier and opt for a DK-type weight. Check your manufacturer's band for hook size suggestions. You'll also need a pair of scissors and a needle for weaving in ends.
