8 bedroom plants that help you sleep better at night

There are a gazillion tips and tricks for getting better sleep at night including swapping out your mattress, turning your air conditioner down and keeping the TV and phone off for an hour before your head hits the pillow. But, there's one trick you may not be familiar with: put a little greenery in the bedroom.
There are some who argue that plants in the bedroom are not beneficial (particularly, placement of plants in the bedroom goes against the practice of Feng Shui, according to Feng Shui Nexus. However, there are numerous benefits of having plants in the sleeping quarters including improved air quality, increased humidity levels, and mood boosting properties.

If you want to try sleeping with greenery in the bedroom, try these plants:
1. Snake Plant (Sansevieria):
While this plant may look a bit snooty (tall and rigid), this plant ranks among the top for indoor plant options. The Snake Plant (and other variations including Mother-in-Law's Tongue) help remove nitrogen, xylene, and formaldehyde from the air, according to NASA.
2. English Ivy
In addition to being pretty, this plant is hardy and it's low maintenance. This plant helps clean the air of toxins such as trichloroethylene, formaldehyde, benzene and Xylene.
3. Barberton Daisy
If you prefer to add a bit of color to your bedroom plants, the Barberton Daisy is a beautiful addition to any space. This flower can grow up to two-feet tall and features a variety of beautifully colored petals. they're pretty, non-toxic and easy to maintain, plus they help remove allergens.
4. French Lavender
Lavender is a popular scent for aromatherapy products for good reason. The Sleep Foundation reports that 71 percent of people sleep better when there's a fresh scent. Lavender plants are a great way to introduce a light, pleasant scent and relaxing color to the bedroom.

NASA approves of this plant too. Ranked as one of the best indoor plants for cleaning the air, the Peace Lily helps remove allergens and neutralize gasses. As a bonus, this flower is a beautiful choice for modern designs and it's low maintenance (requiring less water than most people think).

This ficus plant works well in rooms that have carpets (like the bedroom) because it can help remove allergens from the air before they settle into the carpet and furniture, making it much easier to breathe easy as you drift off at night.

7. Chinese Evergreen
Not only is this plant alarmingly cool looking with large, striped leaves, they are ridiculously easy to care for. They grow well in low-light so if you like keeping your bedroom a little darker, they'll do fine. You should let the soil dry before adding more water to avoid drowning the plant.

8. Sage
Sage is popularly used in aromatherapy to induce a relaxed state, which makes this pretty plant a great option for the bedroom. Added bonus: Choose the right plant and you can actually pull a few leaves off to add to your dinner recipe. The warm scent will make drifting off a bit easier, plus this plant comes in many different varieties so you can be a little more creative when you choose this as a bedroom houseplant.
