Want perfectly sculpted cheekbones? Follow these 6 tips

While supermodels seem blessed with naturally perfect cheekbones, the rest of us need to work a little harder to make them more prominent. Thankfully, creating a more defined cheek doesn't require a plastic surgeon anymore.
The following tips will guide you in finding your natural cheekbone and using the tricks of highlighting and contouring to achieve a chiseled look. While the steps are simple, technique matters. Don't worry, though. You'll master this in no time.

1. Find your cheekbone
You can't begin contouring until you know where you want your shadow. Take a pencil or other thin implement, like a chopstick, and roll it along your cheek until you find the lower edge of your cheekbone. Your contour shade should go below this bone.

2. Lighten areas you want to emphasize
One of the best lessons you can learn is that light advances and dark recedes. When you're applying your makeup, apply a lighter shade of foundation or concealer on the tops of your cheekbones, then apply your darker contour shade below the cheekbone to make it appear more hollow.

3. Use the right contour shade
Unlike bronzer, which is applied to the tops of your cheekbones to mimic a tan and often contains hints of gold or shimmer, a contour shade should be neutral and matte. Your contour color should be approximately two shades darker than your base.

4. Highlight the tops of your cheekbones
Now that you have your contour set, be sure to highlight the upper part of your cheekbones. Highlight catches the light and will emphasize the area nicely.

5. Don't forget your blush
While contouring gives the effect of prominent cheekbones, your makeup look still needs more definition. A pop of color swept along the cheek, just above the contour shade, will give your skin that healthy glow.
6. Blend until your arm falls off
Okay, don't take that literally, but blending is the key to defined cheekbones. Make sure you've thoroughly blended your contour, blush, and highlighter to avoid looking like you have stripes on your face. Subtlety is everything, and harsh edges ruin the effect.
