Don't throw out those jeans. Upcycle them into a trendy throw pillow

There's nothing like the comfort and dependability of a worn-in pair of blue jeans. Even when a pair has been sitting at the back of the closet for years, it can be hard to let go. Here's one way to keep them in the family. This easy, fun DIY upcycles blue jeans into a hexagon patterned pillow that will add texture and a rustic touch to any room.
To customize this project, mix and match a variety of denim washes. Layering dark to light denim will create an ombre effect, while mixing the washes at random will achieve a more eclectic look. For more sentimental value, consider using denim from the old jeans of each member of the family.

Instructions
1. Using the set square and a marker, trace a 3-by-3-inch square on a piece of cardboard. Cut out the square with scissors.
2. Using the cardboard square as a stencil, take the permanent marker and trace squares onto old pairs of blue jeans. For best results, cut squares from jeans that vary in color. You will need 24 squares to cover one side of a throw pillow.
3. Lay out the denim squares on the 18-by-18-inch muslin fabric, and arrange them as desired. Paint the back of each denim square with fabric glue, and glue them in place.
4. Secure each denim square with the sewing machine.
5. Turn the piece of muslin with the denim squares face down, and sew it to the blank piece of muslin to form a pillow. Leave a section the width of your hand unsown so that the pillow can be stuffed.
6. Turn the pillow right-side out and stuff it.
7. Once the pillow is stuffed, sew the last opening shut by hand, and secure it with a knot.
