Do you have piles of old jeans waiting to be donated or thrown out? Create this funky, versatile wreath from strips of denim and declutter your closet in the process. Anyone who loves eclectic decor will adore the texture of the denim strips paired with vibrant flowers. Using different shades of denim adds dimension to the project. Best of all, there’s a simple way to tweak this project so the wreath can decorate your door or room all year.
This project uses sunflowers to add a punch of color, but you could switch them out for another flower, depending on the time of year. Red maple leaves or orange dahlias would be a fitting choice for fall. In spring, consider adding daffodils or camellias. Because the flowers are attached to the wreath with wire instead of glue, it’s easy to change up the look with each season.

Use this strip as a template to cut out the remaining strips of denim for each wash type.
DIY Everywhere
You’ll need a large stack — about 50 strips.

2. Cut every strip in half lengthwise so you now have twice the number of strips 1 inch wide and 6 inches long.
DIY Everywhere
Stack a few of the 2-inch strips and cut them all at the same time. Don’t worry about uneven edges.

3. Measure and cut a piece of twine that’s about 1 foot long.

4. Tie and knot both edges of the twine near the top of the wire wreath frame to create a loop to hang the frame. Trim the edges of the twine.

5. Tightly tie a strip of denim around the outermost wire of the frame.
DIY Everywhere
Continue adding strips to the outermost wire until it’s full.

6. Begin adding strips to the middle wire of the frame. It may be easier to first turn the frame upside down, tie a strip to the wire, and push the tails of the strip through so the tie faces forward.

7. Repeat until the middle wire and the innermost wire are filled with tied strips.

8. Turn the wreath right side up.

9. Position a sunflower on the wreath slightly left of the bottom center, and push the wire stem through the strips and to the back of the wreath.
10. Bend the stem around the frame using needle-nose pliers to secure the flower.
