This fireplace makeover is actually an illusion and you should see how it's done

A fireplace is a great thing to have in the house, especially during the cold winter months! A fireplace that doesn't work, on the other hand, can sometimes just seem like a nuisance.
However, you don't have to let your non-working fireplace just sit there taking up space. Use your creativity, and make it into part of your decor instead!

1. Faux log stack (h/t The Decor Fix)
It looks like this fireplace is full of logs, but it's actually just an optical illusion! Slices of wood have been attached to a black piece of plywood, making it look like a real stack of logs.
2. Colorful painted logs (h/t The Art Of Doing Stuff)
If you want to fill your fireplace with real logs instead, you can add visual appeal by painting the ends to make a colorful display. I love how she displayed the color palette she used on the mantle!
3. Chalkboard cover (h/t Sophia's)
This chalkboard cover doubles as a neat art piece and a way to keep cold air from coming down the chimney! I love how she's drawn a fireplace here, but you could decorate your own chalkboard with whatever you like.
4. DIY faux farmhouse fireplace and mantel (h/t Twelve on Main)
If you want to pull off a realistic faux farmhouse fireplace look that doesn't stand out when you enter a room, you need to check out this DIY. An electric stove sits in the place of where the fire would be.
5. DIY fireplace screen (h/t Edith & Evelyn)
Fireplace screens are the traditional solution for an unused fireplace, but they're still used for a reason! They're wonderfully functional, and if you make your own, they can double as a cool piece of decor.
6. Corrugated cardboard logs (h/t Design Sponge)
If it's not easy to find real logs around where you live, you can easily make your own out of corrugated cardboard. Painting these ones white gave them a nice, modern look, but you could also just leave them brown!
7. Easy candle-filled fireplace (h/t Room For Tuesday)
It's always nice to sit and watch the flames, even if they're just candle flames! This is a great way to keep your living room nice and cozy even if you can't have a big fire.
