Purchase a wooden tv tray at the store & copy this painless concept

Imagine looking out your window and being met with a wide view of the coast and ocean. Bring the essence of coastal style to your home by converting an old wooden TV tray into a coastal stand-up tray. You will have a place to set down a drink or a book without the footprint of another end table in your living room. Match some pillows in a map pattern or nautical theme and you will have a coastal motif for the entire room.
When selecting your materials, any wooden TV tray will work. Add distressed details for an antique look, so don’t worry if there are cosmetic flaws. We used a navy blue paint color to match with the coastal theme, but you can use any color of acrylic paint to match your home. The versatility of this project allows you to customize your trays to your own style. Get creative and enjoy your reformed trays.

Instructions
1. Using a power sander, sand the top of the tray of your wooden tv stand. Make sure to use appropriate safety gear.
2. Take a slotted driver bit (or a flat-head screwdriver) and tap the end with a rubber mallet along the edge of the tray of the TV stand to give a worn look to the wood.
3. Apply an even layer of DecoArt Crafters Acrylic Pain in “Navy Blue” to the entire wooden tray table. Allow the paint to dry completely.
4. Place a strip of painters tape horizontally across the middle of the tray. Apply another strip about 2-inches below the middle strip and another about 2-inches above the middle strip.
5. Fill a small bowl with water and another with DecoArt Americana Acrylic Paint in “White” next to the tray. Dip a medium or small paintbrush in the white paint and then in the water before brushing it on between the strips of painters tape. Make sure to apply the whitewash to the sides as well.
6. Continue until both horizontal strips between the painters tape are whitewashed. Allow to dry completely.
7. On the folding legs of the TV stand, we added rope detail for the coastal feel. To do so, cut a length of rope long enough to wrap around each leg for a few inches.
8. Apply a dab of hot glue to the point you wish to start wrapping the rope. Push the rope into the glue and begin wrapping, applying dots of hot glue as you go. When you have the amount of rope you like, trim the excess rope and secure the end of the rope with hot glue.

9. Remove the painters tape and use your beach tray anywhere that needs a touch of the ocean.
