6 insanely cool ways you can experiment with yeast

It is always exciting to experiment with live cultures. The reason is that there is typically an immediate reaction that you can see taking place, and yeast is no different. Yeast are tiny cells that are actually alive. This adds a level intrigue to all the experiments that use yeast in them.
These are 6 science experiments that use yeast, and the last one you can actually eat!
1. Sugar Yeast Experiment (h/t Sick Science!)

In this experiment, Sick Science uses yeast to blow up balloons, but one of the balloons do not inflate, some balloons barely inflated, and some did inflate. Why? You will have to watch the video to see what was different about each and what was done differently in the experiment to find out.
2. Yeast experiment (h/t OpenLearn)
The scientist in this video uses live yeast to conduct this experiment. She is using the live yeast to see under which conditions life can grow best. This is a cool experiment and it teaches you about living organisms and how they can thrive in different environments. Also, see how she notates her findings. It is very interesting. Which environment do you think is the best for a live organism to grow?
3. Yeast and liquid experiment (h/t Ibrahim Alkhulaifi)
There is no question that different substances have different reactions in different liquids. This experiment is going to show how yeast reacts in different liquids. Ultimately, it will be a determination in which mixture gives of the most carbon dioxide. Make sure you use the same safety precautions as the young man in the video and enjoy this cool experiment.
4. Yeast and temperature experiment (h/t 100abstract)
There are so many varying ways you can test yeast and this experimenter is using temperature. He decides to take sugar and yeast mixed together and adds the mixture to varying temperatures of water to see which one has the greatest reaction. Does temperature matter when dealing with the expansion and release of gas in yeast? Watch the experiment in this video and you will have the answer.
5. Hydrogen peroxide and yeast experiment (h/t ScienceBob)
The mixture of hydrogen peroxide and yeast create a substance known as Elephant Toothpaste. They call it that because the reaction is so big that it is fit for an elephant. Watch how the scientist makes this enormous foam mountain from yeast and hydrogen peroxide; two very reactive substances.
6. Bread experiment (h/t We The Curious)
Making bread may not seem like much of an experiment, but if you have never made bread from scratch you will see how and why it is very much an experiment. In this video, the experimenters explain why yeast is used in bread and how it helps the baking process. Watch the video first, and then get some adult help to actually make the bread and see how yeast plays a major part in the bread baking process.
