You can purchase a prism very cheaply at a craft store or online store, such as eBay or Amazon. Get a triangular shaped one. Inexpensive prisms are made of plastic and work great.
1. Prism slide
Move the prism up and down your frame to create interesting reflective qualities on the subject. Place the prism at the top or bottom of the frame, so that the subject is still the main focus of the shot.
2. Vary the shape
If you can find other shaped prisms that reflect light, use those. Crystal shaped prisms can give a whole new look to a shot, based on where the colors end up in the final photograph.
3. Twist
To bring out the colors of the prism into your shot, twist the prism around until the colors start coming out in the viewfinder of your camera. Play around with different angles until you get the right amount of light. This light will bring out the rainbow and colors in your prism.
4. Center of camera
For this you will want to use two objects or two subjects. Have them placed or standing on either side of your shot's frame. Place the prism in front of the center of your lens long ways and start shooting. The final picture will have the two subjects or objects closer than they first appeared.
