Real estate photography is a great photography niche to get into, especially since the housing market is on the upswing again. 1. Equipment
Take the property photography equipment on the big day of photographing the property. The basics should do if you are just starting out in real estate photography. This includes your camera, tripod, and a lens. If you have other lenses, a flash, wireless triggers, and cable release, bring these along as well.
2. Property
Just like first impressions are important when meeting people, the same applies to when a potential buyer sees a home for the first time. Make sure the first photograph a buyer sees of the house you are photographing makes a big enough impression to keep them interested in finding out more about the house. To do this, get tips from the realtor about the best features of the house and focus on these in your shots.
3. Lighting
Just like its best to shoot outdoors during morning or evening, the same applies to taking photographs of real estate. Find out if the home you are shooting faces towards sunset or sunrise to figure out the best time to shoot.
Take plenty of shots in the morning and evening to find the best angle and lighting.
4. Outdoor lighting
Getting great evening shots at sunset is a great way to help sell a house. Have the realtor turn on all the lights indoors so that the home appears to glow in the photograph. The lights in the house will also make up for the fact that the sun is setting, but still make for a great real estate photo.
5. Indoor shots
Take shots of the main rooms that potential buyers will want to look at. These include the kitchen, master bedroom, master bath, living room, and dining area. Take shots of the best angles of each room, making sure the lines and furniture are arranged to let the viewer's eye naturally flow around the room.
6. Exposure
Getting the exposure right is important to producing great real estate photographs, since these will help sell the house. You want to bring in natural light from the windows, but not too bright light since this can ruin the photographs. Use your camera's histogram to determine the best exposure and take plenty of shots. You are bound to take several that are worthy to use to help sell the house.

7. Angles
Getting the right camera angles for a great real estate shot can be tricky if you are just starting out. You don't want anything in the way in the foreground to block the view of the rest of the room. Make sure the vertical lines of the room are correct as well. Get the majority of the room and furniture in 2/3 of the shot to fill it in and give the viewer a great idea of the size of the room being photographed.
