1. Tripod
Have a tripod with you. This can save you a lot of trouble in the long run, especially if you end up shooting on a windy day and need a sturdy place to set up your camera. Tripods are also great to use when you have your camera set at a long shutter speed for more exposure and less camera shake.
2. Depth of field
Use the greatest depth of field possible to get as much detail of the landscape in your shot as possible. Use a small aperture, which means you may need to adjust your ISO and/or shutter speed to get the right amount of light in your shot. Test out different settings to see which gives you a sharp and nicely lit photograph.
3. Foreground
The foreground is just as important as the rest of the landscape. You want something interesting in the foreground to draw the viewer into the rest of the scene. Adding something in the foreground also gives the impression of depth in the photograph.
4. Golden hour
The best time to shoot any landscape is during the golden hour. These are the times when the sun is coming up and when its going down. This is where you can get the best type of natural light in your shots. Get as much of these golden hues into your shots as possible.
5. Horizon line
The horizon line also plays an important part in your landscape photography. Make sure the horizon line is straight. Some tripods come with a special device that you can line up with the horizon line. Place the line in the upper or lower third of your composition for best results.
6. Focal point
Find a place for the viewer to focus on while getting your landscape composition together. Use the rule of thirds to focus in on your object. This could be a tree, rock, building, or some other kind of structure.

You can also bring in the sky as an important aspect in your landscape photography. Based on how interesting the sky is the day of the shoot will determine how much of it you want brought into the scene. Place the horizon line lower if there are some great clouds on that day.
