6+ things you should know about ISO to improve your photography

To become a great photographer, you need to get to really know several important settings. One of these is ISO. Here are 6+ things you should know about ISO to improve your photography.
ISO is one of the settings that can make a picture bright or dark, along with aperture and shutter speed. If a photo is too bright or dark, you can change the ISO to compensate for the light showing up in the shot.

1. Base ISO
The lowest ISO is the base ISO on your camera. To get the best image quality, use the base ISO as much as you can. Most ISOs start at 200, although a few cameras use 100.
2. Using ISO
Use the base ISO as long as the light in the shot is bright enough. Remember that you need to adjust the shutter speed and aperture that best goes with the chosen ISO. You will need to consider using a high ISO for dark and action shots. Practice plenty of both.
3. Low and high ISO
A low ISO gives a very clear and quality shot, but if its too dark, you won't be able to see much of the image. An image with a high ISO may be lighter, but will also have noticeable graininess and noise. The colors won't be clear, but in some cases you might want to use a high ISO to brighten up a dark image.
4. Changing ISO
There are several ways to change ISO on your camera. Use shutter priority, aperture priority, or manual to best adjust the ISO. You might want to start with the auto setting, although to take the best shots, you want to try out the other ISO settings. Play around with each ISO mode to see which will take the best shots for your photo shoot.
5. High ISO
A high ISO is best used with moving objects and dark settings. If you don't have a flash and will be taking shots in a dark area, use a high ISO. You can also use auto ISO, which will go only as high as you allow it to on presets.
6. Low ISO
A low ISO is used when the lighting is bright enough to not have to change it. A low ISO can work in darker settings, with some practice. Put your camera on a tripod or something else that is steady. Adjust your ISO to a low setting with a long shutter speed, and shoot away.
