How to make black lace luminaries for Halloween

Luminaries are trending across all styles of home decor. These little decorative light sources bring a glow to any room, and they truly evoke the mood of a season or holiday. Halloween is particularly well-suited to DIY luminaries.

This project uses black lace to create a light source that can range from romantic to spooky. Put an orange candle inside, and you instantly have Halloween colors for your home. Autumn is busy, so a quick craft like this is perfect for adding a personal touch to the season.

Materials
- Round glass cylinder, 6" round and 8" tall
- Saran wrap
- Mod Podge Matte
- Small bowl
- Scissors
- Black lace, ~ 4" wide
- Paintbrush
- Exacto knife
- Hot-glue gun
- Glass gems (3 teardrops, 4 circles)
- Votive candle

1. Wrap Saran wrap around glass cylinder.

2. Pour Mod Podge into small bowl.

3. Use scissors to cut a length of black lace 6" long.

4. Wrap the black lace around the the glass cylinder, atop the Saran wrap.

5. Use the paintbrush to apply Mod Podge over the black lace. Cover it completely.

6. Using an Exacto, draw a straight line vertically down the lace. Cut from top to bottom, drawing the knife all the way through the Saran wrap.

7. Remove the lace and Saran wrap from the cylinder. Put the cylinder away.

8. Remove the Saran wrap and dispose of it.

8. Apply hot glue to one short edge of the lace. Adhere the other short edge to it so that it resumes the shape of the cylindrical glass.

9. Apply hot glue to the back of the first teardrop gem. Adhere it to the black lace, vertically at the center.

10. Hot glue one circle gem on either side of the teardrop to create a horizontal row at the center of the luminary.

11. Hot glue one teardrop gem on either end of the row.

12. Hot glue one circle gem on either end of the row.

13. Place the luminary over a votive candle.
