This craft is ideal for people who would rather get something more from their books when the books are beyond saving than just tossing them in the trash. Once you've created a few of these, stash them around the house in whatever rooms you read in.

Instructions
1. Tear out three or four pages of the chosen book.

2. Starting from the smooth side of the page (not the side of the tear), mark off 1/2-inch vertical strips. Do this on more than one page.
3. Cut along the 1/2-inch width marks one page at a time using the cutting mat and craft knife.
4. Discard the strip with the jagged edge.
5. Take one strip and place it horizontally on the work space.
6. Take one strip (called strip 1) and place it vertically, overlapping the horizontal strip so strip 1 is 1/2 inch above the horizontal strip and 1 inch in from the left side of the horizontal strip.
7. Add two vertical strips (called strip 2 and strip 3), one next to the other, on the right side of strip 1. These also should be 1/2 inch above the horizontal strip.
8. Glue strip 1 and strip 3 to the horizontal strip where they meet.
9. Glue strip 2 under the horizontal strip where they meet.
10. Take another strip and place it parallel to the horizontal line. Line up the left edges.
11. Glue strip 1 and strip 3 under the second horizontal strip, and add another horizontal strip.
12. Glue strip 1 and strip 3 over the newest horizontal strip.
13. Continue adding horizontal strips and gluing in the "under-over" weave
pattern until you have 11 horizontal strips, including the initial one.

14. Let the glue dry.
15. Flip over your creation.
16. Fold over the 1/2 inch tops and bottoms and glue to what now is the front.
17. Fold over and glue the strip parts sticking out on the right side.
18. Fold over and glue the left side. Trim the excess.

20. Tie twine through the hole as a tassel.
