Turn a T-shirt into a handcrafted, washable bag

Reusable grocery-store shopping bags are handy, but they are not always the most attractive shopping accessories. After a lot of use, some also get rather odorous and require scrubbing with cleaning agents. As long as the chosen T-shirt is machine washable, so is this project. Toss the bag in the wash any time it starts to get a little funky.
Use any T-shirt size desired; for a smaller bag, use size small or extra-small. You can use any patterns or graphics that you would like. When making this project, use a T-shirt that is not worn through or falling apart to prevent the bag from tearing under the weight of whatever goes inside it.

Instructions
1. Lay the T-shirt flat, facing up. Fold the T-shirt in half lengthwise so the pattern or graphic faces outward. Smooth out the shirt.
2. Place the ruler with the 0-inch mark at the shirt’s armpit. Angle the ruler until it reaches (along the inches side) halfway between the top of the collar and the shoulder seam. Draw a line on the shirt along the inches side.
3. Draw a curved line parallel to the collar, 1 inch from the collar.
4. Cut alone both marked lines. Open the T-shirt, lay it flat and smooth it out. It now should look a bit like a tank top.
5. Cut fringes along the entire width of the bottom, ½-inch wide and 5 inches long. Each fringe should have a front and back piece.

6. Tie the top fringe piece to its back piece in a knot. Repeat this for each fringe pair.
