How to make a rock towel rack

Who doesn’t want to lounge in a hot bath or apply a sheet mask in a relaxing bathroom that exudes a zen calm? This rock towel rack project is easy, but oh-so-lovely. Makers can harvest smooth, pretty rocks from their own yards for the ultimate in DIY supply hunting and gathering.

This project shouldn’t just be limited to the bathroom, either. The natural wood and rock motif would be an ideal piece from which to hang necklaces and bracelets, while a kitchen placement would present an easy-to-access place for measuring spoons or dish towels to live.

Materials
- 8 by 8-inch wooden square, about a 1/2-inch thick
- Gorilla wood glue
- A small rectangular piece of wood, about 3 inches in length by ¼-inch in width.
- Paper towel or a small piece of absorbent cloth
- Two small, fairly flat rocks

Instructions
1. Lay the wooden square on the work surface.

2. Apply glue to one end of one of the small rectangular pieces of wood.

3. Affix this end to the upper left corner of the wooden square, but not directly in the corner. Allow about 1/2 inch of space above and to the left of the small rectangle that will protrude from the square.

4. Wipe away any excess glue with the cloth or paper towel that results from the gluing process.

5. Repeat steps 2-4, but place the small wooden rectangle diagonally across from the first one so that it is oriented on the lower right-hand portion of the wooden square.

6. Take one of the stones and glue it to the end of the small rectangular wooden piece that is protruding from the upper left-hand side of the square.

7. Take another stone and glue it to the rectangular wooden piece glued diagonally across and below the other stone.

8. Allow the glue to dry, and mount the rock towel rack.

No matter where this pretty but functional piece goes,it will provide a welcome place to corral belongings and rest the eye.
