How to make an ice cream-cone garland with Styrofoam balls

Welcome your guests to an ice cream social or birthday party with a festive garland of ice cream cones -- but without a melting mess. Paint them whatever color matches the room's decor or the party's theme. For example, pastels bring spring to mind at a "farewell to winter" gathering.
This garland also is a fun way to decorate a child's bedroom or reading nook. Include your young crafter in choosing colors and painting the Styrofoam balls. Removable wall hooks make it easy to position the garland and replace it with a different-colored one if you want to periodically change the look.

Materials
- Styrofoam ball, 2-inch
- Chalk paint: pale pink, pale blue, white
- Small bowl
- Flat paintbrush, 1/2-inch
- Roll of burlap, 3-inch width
- Scissors
- Hot glue gun
- Hot glue sticks
- Spool of twisted twine
- Removable wall hooks
Instructions
1. Paint one Styrofoam ball pale pink. Let the paint dry.
2. Cut 3 inches from the burlap spool. You should have a burlap square.
3. Cut a half-circle out of the square, starting at the bottom right corner and curving around to the bottom left corner.
4. Arrange the half-circle so the the straight edge is at the top. Fold each top corner inward until the edges meet. Overlap the left corner over the right one until you form a cone shape.
5. Run a line of glue along the overlapped seam. Press together and let the glue dry.
6. Run a line of glue around the inside of the cone's rim. Gently press the painted Styrofoam ball into the glue. Let the glue dry.
7. Repeat all steps for additional colors.
8. Cut off a piece of twine the intended length of the finished garland.
9. Place a dab of glue on the top center of the finished cone. Press the twine into the glue. Repeat for all cones, spacing them as desired.
