This birdhouse planter DIY will leave your neighbors feeling jealous

A simple wooden birdhouse from the craft store can offer some decor for your home or garden. Add craft sticks and succulents to that birdhouse to create a planter that will make all of your guests look twice and say, "wow."
The trick is to properly stagger the craft sticks to create a lattice-like fence for the rooftop garden that you're adding to your birdhouse. With a little bit of paint and the right plants, you end up with new living decor that will delight you each time that you look at it.

Instructions
1. Stand the birdhouse upright with one side of the roof facing towards you. You'll be working entirely on this side first.
2. Imagine that each corner is labeled A through D, from the bottom left corner counterclockwise up to the top right corner. Draw a line of hot glue that starts at corner A, points to corner B, and runs the length of a craft stick. Press a craft stick onto this line of glue.
3. Draw a similar line starting at corner B, pointing towards corner C, and press a craft stick on top of this line.
4. Repeat step three twice more, adhering a craft stick between corners C and D and corners D and A. You should end up with four craft sticks with each stick touching one corner of the roof's rectangular shape.
5. Draw a line of hot glue that starts at the center of the first craft stick that you placed and runs to the end closest to corner B. Add an additional dab of hot glue on the bottom of the stick at corner B. Place a craft stick on this hot glue so that it straddles the first two craft sticks that you placed in round one.
6. Repeat step five three more times, adding three more craft sticks in round two, each layered atop the previous.
7. Adhere another round of craft sticks, placing them directly atop the first round so that it's staggered against the second round.
8. Continue to add rounds of craft sticks accordingly until you have 12 total rounds built up.
9. Rotate the birdhouse so that you can work on the other triangle of the roof. Repeat steps 2-9 to create a mirror image on that side.
10. Pour white chalk glue into a bowl. Work with a paintbrush to cover the entire birdhouse, including the craft sticks, with this white paint. This will give the birdhouse a contemporary design. Note that you do not have to paint the inside of the planter, which was the top of the birdhouse roof before you added the craft sticks, as it will be covered in plants.
11. Remove succulents from their planters and place them, soil and all, between the craft sticks on both sides of the planter. Completely fill the top of the birdhouse with the plants and pat the soil in.
