Instead of using plain, dull pots to house your indoor plants, why not tailor-make one to add a touch of style and whimsy? The customizable ribbon and plants can add color and depth and tie together a room or garden patio.
While this planter would look lovely both inside and outside, it would also be a charming centerpiece or decoration for a party or shower. It is so simple to create that you could make enough to adorn tables at an event. Vary the style and color of ribbon and the types of plants to create a look you love.

To make the most of the planter, aim to have three different plants. Leafy foliage spilling over the top, such as a maidenhair fern, brings drama and height. A bright, pink-leafed coleus or a polka-dot plant brings bright color, and low succulents round out the bottom layer. Like the ribbon, the choice of plants is yours; choose plants that you love and fit with your decor.

Instructions
1. Place the wood or cardboard base inside the birdcage, resting it securely against the bottom of the cage.
2. Weave the ribbon through the spires of the cage, keeping it low down toward the base. When the ribbon has circumscribed the cage, tie the ends together in a bow, snipping the edges to finish it.
3. Line the perimeter of the inside base with dried moss, creating a barrier against the spires of the cage.
4. Fill the center created by the moss with the potting soil. Both the moss and the soil should be behind the "wall" created by the ribbon.
5. Add the plants to the soil, adding more soil and moss as needed to support the plants.
6. Adorn the cage and plants with the artificial birds.
