How to make fingerless gloves from socks

There are times when readers, texters, and typists realize that while the rest of their bodies are warm, their fingers are freezing. Keep your hands warm with a pair of fingerless gloves made from inexpensive socks. Take your pick from any pair in the sock drawer, or shop for a new pair at a dollar store. Many craft stores carry socks with interesting and fun patterns.
Ideally, as a crafter, you have a little sewing skill to handle hemming the glove, but if you don't sew, no worries. Just be careful not to pull at the cut edges and unravel the fabric. Another option is to apply an iron-on hem tape, available at fabric stores.

Instructions
1. Lie one sock flat horizontally. Cut across the toe 2 inches down from the tip. Stick your hand into the sock to see how far the cut edge comes down on your hand. The edge should rest just above the knuckles. If it's higher, trim off more sock.
2. Cut a small bit from the sock heel. This is the thumb opening. Try on the sock. If the thumb opening is too snug, trim it a little more. If it's too large, sew it closed as the next step.
3. Fold in the cut toe edge 1/8 inch and pin it in place. Sew the hem, removing pins as you go. Sew the thumb opening to shorten it if it's too large.

4. Repeat all steps for the remaining sock.
