Whether it’s a day trip to the beach, an afternoon at the library or a trip to the grocery store, a canvas bag proves endlessly useful in keeping errands and trips around town as simple as possible. While these canvas totes make it easy to haul essentials from place to place, there’s no reason not to upgrade the look of these eco-friendly accessories when there’s an opportunity to do so. Sometimes adding a bit of sparkle is all it takes to give a canvas bag a complete makeover that speaks to a personal sense of style.
A combination of dark and light blue sequins can take a canvas bag from standard to sensational in no time at all. Spruce up this cream-colored fabric by sewing three alternating hues of blue sequins to the top edge of a bag. Blue thread and a sewing needle are all it takes to secure these flexible and eye-catching bands of sparkle to the material. Once the decoration is firmly attached, feel free to take this canvas bag anywhere. The new addition of color and shine makes it an accessory that easily transitions from day to evening.

1. Place a plain canvas bag at least 20-inches wide on a flat working surface with handles facing up.
2. Cut a 20-inch string of dark blue sequins measuring 1.25-inches wide from a larger spool.
3. Position the dark blue sequins horizontally across the top of the canvas bag. Leave 1.5-inches of space between the sequins and the top of the bag.
4. Cut a 20-inch string of light blue sequins measuring 1.25-inches wide from a spool and position it horizontally below the dark blue sequins leaving half an inch of space between.
5. Cut a second 20-inch string of dark blue sequins from a spool and position it below the light blue sequins leaving half an inch of space between the two.
6. Use sewing pins to secure the three strings of sequins in place.
7. Sew the top string of sequins to the canvas bag using blue thread and a sewing needle. Begin stitches by coming in from the back of the canvas and working from left to right. Knot the thread inside the bag when complete and cut away excess thread as needed.
8. Repeat this technique for sewing the remaining two strings of sequins in place.
9. Remove the sewing needles from the sequins as stitches are completed.
10. Use this sequin-adorned canvas bag to carry daily items around or bring it to the beach for some added sparkle!
