Bring the forest indoors with this DIY

Even if it's not Christmas, cute reindeer can make any space feel festive -- especially these sweet deer faces made from wood slices. To really get into the crafting spirit, create a scene on a wall. Add some felt pine trees and anything you might find in a forest, such as mushrooms and pine cones. Instead of purchasing wood rounds, you could cut them from logs on your property, but before bringing them in the house, make sure the wood is dry and insect-free.
Besides being a charming indoor decoration, these deer faces complement the holiday season when hung on a front door. Place one individually or hot glue them in a vertical row to a wide red, green or silver ribbon. Cut a small hole at the top of the ribbon and slip it over a removable hook.

Instructions
1. Place the wood slice on the medium-brown felt. Trace around it. Cut out the circle. Divide the circle into thirds. Cut out two of the thirds. Glue the remaining third, point down, on the top front of the wood slice.
2. Cut a 1-inch oval from white felt. Turn it so it looks like an egg lying on its side. Glue it to the bottom front of the wood slice.
3. Cut two 1-inch pointed arches from white felt. The bottoms should be flat. Glue them onto the medium-brown felt, lining up the bottom edges with the edge of the felt. Cut around the white felt, leaving a 1/8-inch border of brown felt. These are the ears.
4. Run a line of glue along the straight part of the ears. Adhere them to the back of the wood slice where you want the ears to be.
5. Cut out two black eyes and a rounded triangle for the nose. Turn the triangle so it points down.
6. Glue the eyes to the wood slightly to the left and right of where the felt from step 1 meets the felt from step 2.
7. Glue the black triangle to the center top of the oval white felt.
8. Draw two antlers on the dark-brown felt, 4 inches high, and cut them out. Glue them to the back of the wood between the ears.
