Create a sensational summer keychain using a charming seashell

Summer is just around the corner, and with the arrival of warmer days comes the opportunity to glam up accessories in seasonal style. Seashells are one of the most abundant summertime finds, and even if the ocean isn’t nearby, incorporating a seashell into a DIY design is a fun way to pay homage to this vibrant time of year. Keep keys handy and on summer trend too by creating a one of a kind seashell keychain that adds shine and seaside fun to a purse or clutch.
Some black cord and a preferred seashell create a simple yet eye-catching combination when it comes to crafting a keychain that reminds observers of summers spent on sandy shores. Adding pearly white and decorative metal beads in an alternating pattern adds just the right amount of sparkle, shine, and texture. While adding a single seashell keychain to a purse or pocketbook is the perfect way to upgrade summer style, there are always options to mix and match keychains as well. Consider swapping out a black cord for a blue cord to create a second keychain that beautifully compliments the original. Wherever they hang, these seashell keychains are a charming way to keep close to summer all year long.

Instructions

1. Select a decorative seashell with a small hole in the center or a preferred shell that has a center hole added after it’s collected.
2. Thread the end of a string of black necklace cord through the center hole of the seashell. Knot the cord on the inside of the shell to secure.
3. Cut the cord from the spool allowing 4 inches of cord to remain.
4. Thread a faux pearl bead onto the cord so the bead rests on top of the shell.
5. Thread a decorative faux metal bead onto the cord so it sits on top of the faux-pearl bead. Continue adding beads in this alternating pattern using four faux pearls and three faux-metal beads in total.
6. Loop the end of the cord through a keychain clasp after the final faux-pearl bead has been threaded through.
7. Knot the cord around the clasp to attach. Cut away excess cord at the clasp and behind the shell as needed.
8. Attach the seashell keychain to a purse zipper or pocketbook to add summery style to a wardrobe. Use as a single decorative addition, or create a collection of keychains that can be used on apparel together.
