Cue a casual look by fraying your denim shorts

Being distressed isn’t always a bad thing, especially when it comes to one of the hottest denim trends. Ripped jeans are all the rage, but to create the summer equivalent, simply fray the leg openings of your favorite jean shorts.
These shorts would look stylish with boots or high top sneakers, and the fringy detail makes them look even more randomly chic. You don’t have to stop at shorts either. If you have a denim skirt you haven’t worn in while, this treatment will put it in heavy rotation again.

Instructions
1. Place the shorts on your work surface.
2. Trim the hem portion off the bottom of each leg opening with the scissors.
3. Gently rub a small section of one of the trimmed leg openings with a sharp scissor blade. You can also use a razor to perform this task, if you prefer.
4. Continue the process until both leg openings are done. This step loosens the threads in the fabric.
5. Pull the longer loose threads with your fingers to create fringe.
6. Take a small piece of sandpaper, and use it to further roughen up the fringed areas you’ve created.
7. Your fringy shorts are now ready to wear.
Go for a Western feel by giving your denim shorts this DIY treatment.
