Spring up a shelf with this flower vase made from an old candle jar

Did you know that it takes glass about one million years to decompose in a landfill? That's just one of several reasons why it's important to make sure containers like old candle jars get recycled or upcycled instead of tossed in the garbage. This simple and sweet DIY project repurposes a candle jar into a vase that brings a touch of spring to any shelf or table. It's the ultimate example of transforming trash into a treasure.
This project uses light blue paint, a key charm and dainty white flowers to complement a shabby chic bookshelf, but it's easy to switch up the details to match the style of any room. Bright pink paint, a butterfly charm and vibrant daisies would look darling in a little girl's room, while dark navy paint paired with white lilies would make for an elegant addition to a husband's reading nook. No matter the specifics, this upcycled vase is a home accessory you can feel good about.

Instructions
1. Clean an old candle jar and place it on the table.
2. Fill the bottom of the jar with acrylic paint. Flip the jar over and let the paint pour down the inside of the glass. Tilt the jar as needed to get an even coat of paint.
3. Flip the jar right side up and let it dry overnight.
4. Wrap the twine or string around the top of the jar between the threads for the lid. Use the high temp glue gun to glue the string as you wrap it around the glass. Repeat until there are about three rows of string on the jar.
