Pretty in print: Use newspaper to create a party banner with a vintage vibe

A pennant banner is a must-make ornament for any celebration. Aside from being a classic centerpiece, it's quick, easy and inexpensive to make. Each pennant can feature a letter from your guest of honor's name or spell out a special message for the occasion. When hung on the wall, it serves as a charming backdrop for party photos that your guests will treasure for years to come.
This banner created from newspaper proves that decorating for a party doesn't have to mean your rushing to the store and spending a lot of money on mass-produced decorations. Making use of what's already around your house is not only financially savvy, it's also environmentally sound. Most importantly, your guest of honor will be delighted by the thought and care you invested into making customized decorations. Using newspaper as the main material gives this banner an effortless vintage vibe.

Instructions
1. Cut sheets of newspaper into squares that are a little more than 4 inches wide by 4 inches long. Cut as many sheets as needed to spell out the desired word or phrase for your banner. Stack the sheets.
2. On the top sheet, use a straight ruler to mark two dots that are 4 inches apart. Mark a third dot that's halfway between the first two dots.
3. Turn the ruler and mark a dot that's 4 inches below the middle dot. Connect all the dots to form a triangle.
4. Cut out the triangles. Arrange them on a sheet of construction paper so there's enough room to cut a 1/2-inch border around each one. Use the glue stick to paste the triangles to the paper. Cut out the triangles with a 1/2-inch border around each.
5. Cut some string to the desired length of your banner. Turn over a triangle. Place a small dot of hot glue in the middle of the top edge. Press the string into the hot glue and allow it to dry. Repeat for each triangle, evenly spacing them out along the string.
6. Put an alphabet sticker on each pennant to spell out the desired word or phrase. Hang the banner and enjoy!
