Make a rustic branch shelf in five minutes with three materials

Looking for the simplest DIY shelf imaginable that can also make your home feel warm and inviting? This shelf made from a branch and yarn is just the thing if you love the look of lake house decor. Keep it simple and hang it from white adhesive hooks or a set of natural wood hooks to round out the earthy style. A tiny jar of flowers, a candle or a gnome figurine complete the picture.
This project calls for a craft branch halved lengthwise. While it’s easy to find branches for crafting in online marketplaces, you might have to cut the branch in half yourself using a table saw. If that’s not an option, try to find a seller through a craft marketplace who can take custom orders and cut the branch for you. Another alternative is to buy a piece of half-round molding from a home improvement store and paint one side to resemble a branch.

Instructions
1. Place the halved branch on the table. Wrap the yarn three times around one end of the branch. Tie off the yarn on the round side of the branch and trim with scissors.
2. Repeat step 1 for the other end of the branch.
3. With the flat side of the branch facing up, tie a new piece of yarn to the yarn that’s already wrapped around one end of the branch. Tie the knot near the top edge of the branch. Loop the yarn back on itself, cut it from the skein, and tie the loose end to the yarn along the bottom edge of the branch.
4. Repeat step 3 for the other end of the branch.
5. Hang the shelf from hooks on the wall. Display a small jar of flowers or figurines of your choice.
